The Story of Hilton Australia

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. is an American multinational hospitality company that operates a range of hotels and resorts. In 1925, Conrad Hilton opened the first hotel to bear the Hilton name in Cisco, Texas. He wanted it to be the best hotel in Texas. Thanks to his commitment and innovation, today Hilton is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing hospitality companies.

Hilton has 19 hotel brands that are a bit different from each other. With 7,061 properties across 123 countries and territories, Hilton can be found in various locations, from beachfront properties to hotels in major cities.

There are Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties in most major cities in Australia, as well as in leisure destinations like Cairns and Surfers Paradise. These include Hilton Adelaide, Hilton Darwin, Hilton Sydney, Hilton Brisbane, Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street, Pullman Melbourne On the Park, Parmelia Hilton Perth, Hilton Cairns, and Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residence.

Culture & vibe

Hilton is in the business of people serving people. So far, it has welcomed over 3 billion guests through its doors. Therefore, they are committed to creating the best work environment since investing in their staff will benefit their guests and communities.

They strive to realise this commitment by ensuring a sense of family and belonging for every team member, creating professional and personal growth opportunities for them, and providing industry-leading benefits to empower staff to be their best selves.

Hilton conducted a global staff survey in 2018, where they asked their team members what excites them most about working at Hilton. The results show that most of the staff are happy about the people they work with, the opportunities to grow their careers, pride in the Hilton brand, connecting with customers, meaningful and fun work, and special benefits.

The teams at Hilton are also diverse by nature and inclusive by choice. They try to understand and integrate the unique perspectives and voices of the staff, guests, suppliers, and partners to cultivate an inclusive and diverse environment for all.

Recruitment process

You need to apply online via the Career page of their site and select the job based on sub-categories, brands, country, employment type, or hotels. You can learn more about the job description and requirements before submitting your application by clicking the Apply button. If you make the cut, the recruiter will contact you for a phone interview and in-person interviews.

They conduct a thorough and often lengthy interview process to ensure new staff will live up to their reputation in the hospitality industry, regardless of the role. Therefore, the interview questions are usually more focused on soft skills. These include traits such as leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, and flexibility, which are essential in a service-based industry.

To enable staff to grow personally and professionally in their career, through the partnership with Guild Education, staff can have access to a range of educational credentials from learning providers and leading universities, including English language learning, high school completion, college degrees, professional certifications, digital literacy, and more.

They are also committed to sustainability and environmental friendliness. In fact, Newsweek and Forbes recognized the company’s green policies and awarded Hilton as a Top 50 Green Brand in 2015. Chain-wide programs at Hilton properties include: using energy-efficient appliances and bulbs, using less water in laundry facilities, participating in the Carbon Disclosure Project and striving to reduce carbon footprints at their hotels, reducing soap and food waste to a significant degree, recycling mattresses and old TVs, and banning unsustainable food products like a shark fin, and sourcing goods from local suppliers.
